I had some great savings this week with cereals! I was able to print the 4/4 kellogg’s coupon, and earlier this week Safeway had a cereal sale (BUY 8 promo thing),so from original price of $3.99 and the promo sale plus coupon, I was able to get it at $.99 each! SCORE!!! The Nivea lip balm was free because it was on sale for $.99 and I used the $1 coupon. I was a happy shopper:) The Safeway trip was really quick because I had no plans to buy anything else, I just wanted to use the cereal coupons so that left time to go check out Target! Our Safeway and Target are in the same area so I don’t have to drive again just to go to another store (saves gas!) and I’m so glad that I checked Target out because I got a lot of great deals there too.
I know spring just started but I can’t help but get excited that summer is just around the corner! It was so nice yesterday here in the Pacific Northwest that I decided to grill some burgers. We got the patties from the local meat shop here in Issaquah and to add yumminess to the burger I made caramelized onions and added peppery arugla.
I made this dish last Friday night, and it was simple and delicious. I was kinda worried that I overcooked the pork chop but luckily it turned out just right, moist and tender:) I made garlic mashed potatoes (Paula Deen’s recipe that I got from the food network) and Hubby requested some green beans to go with it:)
Linking up with Lindsey at the pleatedpoppy again for what I wore Wednesday:) I’m excited that Spring is finally here so I can give my boots a rest and look forward to less layered clothing. But knowing Seattle weather, I’m not sure if I can totally give up the boots and sweaters:)
Everything I got this week was on sale! We had already finished our meal shopping for this week so I only bought the essentials like milk and fruits. The cheese is just a bonus because it was on sale this week too. Tillamok is regularly priced at $3.65 but they’re on sale for $1.25!
Another fun weekend with Hubby! Date night on Friday (dinner at Wild Fin then watched the movie 21 jump street). Saturday, we had dinner at my In-laws. I had the best corned beef ever (my DIL prepared corned beef just because it’s St. Patricks day) then we bought some cupcakes at our fave cupcake shop here in Issaquah (Confetti Cupcakes). Sunday we watched the PNB’s performance of Snow White then dinner at some weird Seattle restaurant named Unicorn!
We had a lot of left over from our chili this week and ended up adding it to our hotdogs and sweet potato fries. We love sweet potatoes in our house, doesn’t matter if it’s baked, fried, or steamed! We always have them around:) Hubby made the sweet potato fries and home made aioli sauce, it was delish:)
I’ve been watching The Pioneer Woman on FoodNetwork most of my Saturday mornings, and she made this Chili dish a couple of weeks ago. So last night I’ve made this dish and it was good chili. I kinda agree with her that it’s simple and almost perfect for me but the Hubby still prefers his chili with chuck roast beef instead of ground beef! Oh well, it was still tasty and this recipe will be one of my go to chili recipes:)
Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
2 cloves garlic, chopped
One 8-ounce can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup masa harina (corn flour, found in the Mexican food section of many supermarkets)
One 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
One 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
Shredded Cheddar, for serving
Chopped onions, for serving
Tortilla chips, for serving
Lime wedges, for serving
Directions
Place the ground beef in a large pot and throw in the garlic. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain off the excess fat, and then pour in the tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and cayenne. Stir together well, cover, and then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. If the mixture becomes overly dry, add 1/2 cup water at a time as needed.
After an hour, place the masa harina in a small bowl. Add 1/2 cup water and stir together with a fork. Dump the masa mixture into the chili. Stir together well, and then taste and adjust the seasonings. Add more masa paste and /or water to get the chili to your preferred consistency, or to add more corn flavor. Add the beans and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve with shredded Cheddar, chopped onions, tortilla chips and lime wedges.
I did a little grocery shopping today after my Zumba class, because my local Fred Meyer is having a great sale on cereals and I have cereal coupons that will expire soon. Walgreens is having a good deal with Coke products too. The coke deal is my favorite, it’s 6/$20 and get 10$(RR = register rewards) so it’s like paying $10 for the 6 packs. We are not really a big soda drinkers but we still like to have them for our family and friends whenever we have dinners at home.
Fred Meyer deal: after sales and coupons I paid $23 (original price around 56$)
