Hi Friends! How are you all? It’s been a while since I posted, not much going on here! Aside from watching my In laws dog (they’re already back from their vacation!), going to parks during nice days (we’ve had a couple of sunny days), our local farmers market officially opened, and we started our garden (the slugs are already eating some of our veggies!UGH!)..Life is good! We “failed” our WHOLE30! HA! Day 21 during Mother’s day, I ate rice with my ahi poke! My mothers day gift to myself! So we basically lasted 3 weeks of the journey! Between me and the Hubs we lost 14lbs! Hubby is still going strong though! We still plan to eat whole foods, plus will probably “tweek” things around like adding creamer to my coffee, and treats every now and then!
Off to do some gardening right now, I still have some annuals to plan! Have a great weekend friends!
Hello friends! Hope you had a relaxing labor day weekend. Ours was a good one! The hubs and I enjoyed sushi and Korean drama (our latest thing!) friday evening. Take out food and movie/tv show marathon is one of my favorite date nights with hubs. The weather lately is one of the reasons we prefer staying at home. We’ve been having lots of thunderstorms and Riley is always stressed when he hears the thunder. No matter what we do to comfort him, nothing seems to work.
We finished the Korean drama “That Winter, The Wind Blows”. I really like the lead stars, they look so good together but the ending of the show was a little disappointing for us.
Saturday we went to the Evergreen State Fair! Had a blast with my In laws and we ate too much fair food:)
We went to church Sunday morning, did a little grocery shopping after. Enjoyed teriyaki for lunch and a nap and lots of cuddling with Riley. We started another Korean drama show that my friend Faye recommended (Fated to Love) which is on Netflix right now. We finished the 20 episodes in 2 days ( I think we are lightly obsessed with RomCom shows lately).
Today (Monday,Labor Day) I did a lot in the kitchen. I roasted the tomatoes that we got from our garden and prepared Rileys food for 2 weeks. I wish we “trained” Riley how to eat commercial dog food (I’m sure there’s lot of decent dog food we can get him). I’ve been cooking his meal for the last year already ( Our vet gave me some recipes to use). He’s our fur baby so it’s worth it for us to make dog food from scratch, know what’s in his food. Back to the tomatoes, I’m looking forward to using my roasted tomatoes in the coming weeks for soups and pasta dishes.
We had Mexican takeout for our dinner tonight, nachos and beef taquitos are always good! Hubs bought some Krispy Kreme donuts for us because it was a long and tiring day of kitchen work:)
Hope you all have a good rest of the week everyone!
Hello friends! Happy Friday! The weather outside is starting to feel like fall. I’ve been spending time in the garden, trying to weed and “harvest” the remaining tomatoes I have left after the slugs feasted on them. Honestly, this year our garden was disappointing. I still have lots of green tomatoes, not sure if its the weather or what but summer is almost over and some of them are still green! I did try to ripen them(wrap in news paper individually) and what a pain, but so far they’re looking good. I plan to dehydrate them (sun-dried tomatoes). I’ve chopped the herbs (green onions, basil, parsley) and put them in the freezer. They’ll be useful this fall and winter for soups/stews.
We’ve been having a great week in the PNW (weather wise) so I’ve been enjoying staying in our patio and my little garden, savoring summer! I didn’t go “all out” in my garden this year and kept it simple. I had tomatoes and herbs and cheap annuals just to add color and that’s about it. I have 3 hydrangeas and I’ve been enjoying them inside the house too. They’re my favorite! I’ve been loving free flowers for the last couple of weeks now. I’ve been using our herbs too in my cooking. I love summertime:)
Hello everyone! I can finally “see” spring in our own yard! I cleaned some parts of the yard today because the gardener who was suppose to take care of our messy yard got sick and who knows when he will get better. So I just started to clean some parts and will continue to do so in the coming days. I don’t mind because the weather today was sunny and the perfect time to spend outside. I will probably buy some flowers and herbs/veggies next month so I can start gardening. I’m kinda excited!
Our Garden is doing really well lately, with the nice summer we are having here the plants and flowers are loving it. My favorite is my hydrangea plants. The white and purple are really blooming well and I’m really enjoying picking fresh flowers every week. Flowers are kinda expensive when I buy them in our local farmer’s market. I’ve been using my herbs in my cooking and eating the lettuces too, admittedly I’ve thrown some because it’s just too much and we can’t eat them all.I’m looking forward to harvesting our tomatoes in the coming weeks.
It’s been a busy couple of days here because my sister and two of her friends visited us (sis joined the Rock and Roll Seattle marathon last Saturday) and we showed them around Seattle and we had a great time. I will post more of her visit this week. I wanted to show the new developments in my garden and goodness it’s thriving very well. I’ve been using a lot of my herbs in my cooking and I’m looking forward to eating a lot of salad this week too. My favorite harvest this morning was the strawberries, I plan to make the home made version of Starbuck’s strawberry creme drink. My hydrangea plant is growing like crazy too and I’ve been enjoying having fresh flowers all over the house. I love being in my yard this time of year:)
I’ve been enjoying planting and growing our garden since last month. I really do enjoy it and consider it one of my hobbies. But I’m not saying that I’m an expert because surely I’m not and I’ve killed a couple of veggies and flowers since I started gardening (through the years). Last month my Mom In-Law helped me pick flowers and we went to her favorite nursery where the plants are “nicer” compared to what I’ve seen in our local Home Depot and Lowes. I will plant more of the veggies I bought this week (green beans, pac choy, swiss chard). My herbs are also doing pretty well. The chives are out of control and we’ve been using them a lot. I’m so looking forward to “harvesting” tomatoes this summer, last year we were successful and grew lots of tomatoes and were able to share them with our family and friends. Here’s some of the pics:
It was a beautiful summer day today here in the PNW, and I spent some time in our small garden, and “harvested” some of our tomatoes, kale, strawberries, and basil that I plan to use this week. This is my second year in gardening and I’m happy with how my tomato plants are producing (last year was a fail). I don’t eat raw tomatoes but I don’t mind eating tomato based dishes (weird I know!). I plan to use it for pasta or mixed it in salads for my husband.
The Hubs and I went to the seafood market today and got some crabmeat, blue marlin and my fave umami sauce (mixture of mayonnaise, sriracha, lemon, soysauce). It was one tasty dinner we had!
The weather here in the PNW is just gorgeous! The last couple of weeks I’ve been into gardening because of the weather and I really enjoy growing our own food. We did it last year and I think it was a success. Lots of herbs and veggies like broccoli and zucchini. I will take more pictures once I’m done because I’m just starting and I still have plans to buy more herbs and veggies. Are you going to have a garden this year?
